Mapping and Monitoring Forest Landscape Restoration Using Landsat-8 Images

In the context of Bonn Challenge, Pakistan started Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) in 2014. This study assessed growth performance and survival rate young plantations developed linear regression models by using Landsat-8 data. The results showed that fast-growing species such as Eucalyptus camaldulensis Robinia pseudoacacia have shown a good compared to Pinus roxburghii Cedrus deodara. vegetation indices include Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Soil Adjusted (SAVI), Modified (MSAVI), (DVI), Green (GNDVI), which were correlated with volume (m3). RVI has highest correlation R2 value 0.88 followed NDVI, SAVI, GDVI 0.83. Stepwise (SLR) MASVI SAVI strong significant relationship rest indices. simple model lowest RMSE (1.19 m3/ha) is considered best for plantation mapping. temporal assessment afforestation (2013-2018) images was successful sampled sites. differencing threshold measured area under 7,309.7 ha 2013 increased 9,224.9 2018. suggested data potential monitoring FLR activities can be enhanced further when combined other datasets.
